What is QTVR?
This particular function of QuickTime from Apple is normally used for viewing a series of panoramic photos that have been ‘stitched’ together so you can see them in a 360 degree panorama, making it feel as if you’re actually there - although time and motion have been frozen. You can zoom in and out to a certain degree, as well as look up and down and pan left and right. If you open this link to the UK company, Pan360 you'll get a very good idea of what it can achieve. (If you'd like to know more, click on the IQTVRA image at the foot of this page).
What we create are virtual QTVR's. Instead of 'stitching' together photographs, our clever 3D applications are able to create these panoramic view all by themselves... after we've programmed them to do so, of course. The images above and below are how our QTVR's come out, but this isn’t how you will see them in your QuickTime Player. The only way to truly get an idea of what it's capable of is by taking a look at the QTVR's below. Just click on their thumbnails images and the QTVR will open in a separate browser page. The Berth (right) and Wroxeter (left) QTVR's will take a minute or so to download, whilst the interior of the keep at Kenilworth (centre) QTVR may take over 5 minutes.
N.B. If you need more of an explanation on how to use QTVR, read the instructions below the images.
QTVR INSTRUCTIONS
Using QuickTime Virtual Reality we're able to place a 'camera' anywhere in our virtual site and allow you to look around that point in a 360° PANORAMA that you control. When you click on one within an article it will begin to download the image on a NEW, BLANK PAGE. This may take a minute or so to complete, depending on your modem, but whilst it does so you can always carry on reading the article. (Don't be concerned if at the bottom of your browser it says "Done" when it isn't; it's still downloading). Once the image appears, resize your browser window so you don't loose the article beneath it and place your MOUSE CURSOR over the QTVR IMAGE. When you do, you'll notice it change from a pointer to a 'TARGET' SYMBOL. Now if you hold your LEFT MOUSE BUTTON DOWN whilst slowly dragging your mouse (or tracker ball) your 'target' will change to an ANCHOR SHAPED ARROW. Moving this arrow to LEFT/RIGHT or UP/DOWN will move your view in that direction. The further to the edge of the image you move the arrow, the faster the panning motion will be. The + and - symbols underneath the image allow a certain amount of ZOOMING in and out. You're ready to go!
